论死亡
　　于是艾尔梅特拉问,现在我们想知道死亡的奥秘。
　　先知说：
　　你想知道死亡的真缔。
　　除了在生命的心中你又能从哪儿去寻觅？
　　犹如猫头鹰夜间敏锐的眼睛,它却无法揭示光明
　　在白日里的神秘。
　　假如真要窥视死亡的灵魂,你必需对生命畅开胸
　　膛。
　　因为生命总是面对死亡,犹如江河终将流入海
　　洋。
　　
　　关于来世的知识隐藏在你祈望的深谷；
　　如同一粒种子在白雪下梦想,你的心也梦想着春
　　天。
　　信赖一切梦境吧,那里面隐藏着通往永生的门
　　户。
　　一个牧人接受国王的恩抚时,他会战栗。这种战
　　栗就像你对死亡的恐惧。
　　牧人难道不是因为头顶沾有国王的汗迹而喜悦
　　吗？
　　他还是应该更加留意自己的战栗？
　　
　　除了在风中裸立日下消融,死亡还能是什么？
　　除了把呼吸从不息的潮汐中解放,使他上升,膨
　　胀,无碍地寻求上帝,停止呼吸又算什么？
　　
　　只有当取饮沉默之水,你才真正歌唱。
　　只有当到达山顶,你才真正开始攀登。

　　On Death
　　Then Almitra spoke, saying, We would ask now of Death.
　　 And he said:
　　 You would know the secret of death.
　　 But how shall you find it unless you seek it in
　　the heart of life?
　　 The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the
　　day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
　　 If you would indeed behold the spirit of death,
　　open your heart wide unto the body of life.
　　 For life and death are one, even as the river and
　　the sea are one.
　　
　　 In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your
　　silent knowledge of the beyond;
　　 And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your
　　heart dreams of spring.
　　 Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate
　　to eternity.
　　 Your fear of death is but the trembling of the
　　shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is
　　to be laid upon him in honour.
　　 Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling,
　　that he shall wear the mark of the king?
　　 Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
　　
　　 For what is it to die but to stand naked in the
　　wind and to melt into the sun?
　　 And what is to cease breathing, but to free the
　　breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and
　　expand and seek God unencumbered?
　　
　　 Only when you drink from the river of silence
　　shall you indeed sing.
　　 And when you have reached the mountain top, then
　　you shall begin to climb.
　　 And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then
　　shall you truly dance.
