这是莎士比亚劝说某个青年男子结婚，并生育后代的诗。体现了两个主题：一、生命通过后代的延续获得永恒。二、体格、品质优秀（即有着内在、外在美丽）的人们尤其担负着延续后代，从而把这种美丽留存于世的责任。
